012.webp009.webpYesterday I when looking with my metal detector for an old dump on a new property for me . I had been on the property when a previous owner had it about 20 year ago and knew there was at least a small bottle dump there .Anyways the property had been planted for wildlife habitat and what was easy to see than is vastly different now. Other than some mowed paths it is all covered with grass that is 6 or more foot tall .So I picked a path near to where I recalled this bottle dump was at and started working the path with my detector . I found 2 strap hinges ,a bolt ,some type of smashed aluminum can lots of small pieces of wire and about 3 dozen small pieces of glass .As I was wrapping up for the day I found the item that I am showing a pic of . I have been around farming my whole life and have never seen anything like it

A closer picture and both sides with something to tell how big it is.
Try to give us the most info you can about it.

I suppose it could be a part from a farm implement .But I am not sure .I know a guy that was an auctioneer for public farm sales for 60 years .Maybe he could tell me what it comes from .Thanks for those who responded .

007.webp009.webp011.webpIn spite of the heat I went back today to dig some more .I am really hoping to find the bottle dump because the few items I found almost 20 years ago where some of the oldest items I ever dug when it comes to bottles .My second chance at digging there is something I do not want to miss out on. I recovered a lot more pieces of glass ,some pottery ,some wire 2 pieces of a plow shear a hook for a chain .Several pieces of iron that could have been to hinges to building or parts to old farm equipment another part to something I never seen in the past Also I found the spoon half of a spoon ,no handle . Based on the assortment of iron I found I have to think it comes from some old piece of equipment .but I am still at a loss what it went too .All of the glass I found so far appears to be fairly modern

My first thought when I saw your metal find was plow hardware as well. :icon_scratch:
The metal looks relatively modern due the the lack of corrosion.

Thanks for the background pics of the site,
Dave

I showed the arrow shaped item to someone that knows farm equipment and he did not think it came from a farming piece of equipment . However he thought it could be a tooth of an old style backhoe . I am still hoping to ask the Auctioneer friend . I was at the site digging again yesterday If I get a chance I will post some picture today .

Yesterday I spent about 2 hours looking for the old bottle dump again. I found more old pieces from different farm implements ,small pieces of glass ,some pottery and terra catto pipe .Much of the glass looks like it was melted . I may be close to the dump I am hunting but I have not seen anything that look as old as the item I found there originally 20 years ago The first pic is of the items I found yesterday and the other is some of what I found years ago003.webp005.webp
