99.9999% of these things are fake, and I think this one is too. Sorry, but it doesn't seem to have any real patina. Very few terra cotta pieces from down there are real, and a lot of stone stuff is being faked now too, but there is more genuine stone than terra cotta.

Reproduction piece for the tourist market. Seller will always have a story with it,where it was found...etc...

No, it's our "experienced with artifacts" eyes that are telling us it's modern. No patina at all, no weathering whatsoever, looks like it was made yesterday. It's like that.

T H down here they have developed patience, after making one they bury if in mineral rich area for a few years then dig it up. It is complete with a patina, mineral stains and rootlets. It can even foot univeersity ezperts.

When you look at an artifact ask your self what purpose did it serve. Is it part of something,I.e. broke off or was it meant to be itself? It seems to me to be a tourist trinket.

Theres no wear on the bottom of it.Things get moved, movement can cause wear,no signs of wear on the bottom.

I bought 2 native American stone pips 10 years ago and knew for sure they were the real deal. I posted them on Tnet to get some feed back it was not what i wanted to hear so i sent them off to be authenticated, i waited for my pips and the verdict to arrive in the mail. Both pipes were deemed reproduction modern.
