It does not appear to be one to me. Keep looking its just a matter of time until you get a good one!

Yea looks like it could be copper , maybe try posting under metal detecting forum somebody may be able to identify it.
 

Looks like raw copper, not sure why you think it is an artifact.
 

It doesn't look like copper, it looks like melted lead.
 

It doesn't appear to be a natural formed piece, so yeah I guess that would be an artifact which is basically something made by the action of humans. No clue as to what race, culture or historical period. It looks like a piece of something you find where people burned trash.
 

my guess is meteorite or emerald. test to see if it is magnetic for meteorite. I also can almost make out what looks like little people in canoes or on horseback chasing after a larger animal. Just the overall shape of the item reminds me of an animal torso, maybe from some old sculpture or possibly a junked attempt.

Where are you seeing them little people chasing a large animal?
