I was in Aruba last week and decided to bring my metal detector. A couple of neat finds, nothing really of real value, a few smaller silver charms/pendants, a mens steel wedding band and a thin 70's style gold bangle earring that was heavily encrusted in calcium and shells - probably weighed a gram or so 14k. Best find by far was when a woman came over and said she had lost her wedding ring a couple days prior while sitting under the umbrella's but couldn't remember which one. She was really upset, said her husband had taken his ring off until they could buy new ones. So I asked her to give me a general idea of where, set up a fairly tight pattern on my CTX 3030 (it was a silver w/turquoise ring) - started swing while she asked people under the umbrella's if it was okay. We drew a fair amount of attention from folks, and within 5 or so mins I got a clear signal at 4 inches - brushed the sand aside and there was her ring. She gave me a huge hug, started crying and half the beach cheered. Very cool - 1st time I had something like that happen. She found me an hour or so later, tried to give me $100 which I refused saying I already got more than fair payment from doing a good deed, she kept pushing, finally I just said if she had to do something donate it to a charity. Later that day she saw me and my wife having lunch and stealth paid our check. At least a half a dozen times over the next couple of days people stopped me (with and w/o my detector) to say how cool it was that I was able to find the wedding band.
BTW: Aruba looks like a great place to hunt. Lots of beaches with lots of people, been going there for more than 10 years and have never seen another detector. It was my 1st time at a beach so I'm sure I was missing more than I was finding, and was only doing wet/dry sand. They do get a lot of beach erosion and end up pumping sand back on the beaches so you probably need to take that into account.
