Assistance needed in identifying Texas pin/tack?

Hi:
I found this Texas item at a flea market and am not sure what it is. The tack/pin is about 1 1/4" across and has no markings other than a hand scribbled P with a circle around it on the back. Any assistance anyone can provide in identifying what the item actually is will be appreciated.

Check out this page, there are two or three like yours. It seems those are reproductions of ones supposed to have been used in the civil war.

Thanks for passing along the link. It looks as though I paid a little to learn a little. In looking at the information you provided, it looks as though it is likely a reproduction hat pin. While it's different than the reproductions in a couple of ways (the back is flat versus imprinted, the pin appears different), it probably is very likely a reproduction. Still if anyone else has any more info I would appreciate it.

I didn't even know there was a civil war hat pin so I'm not too disappointed. I was just hoping it was something off of an old saddle or the like. Thanks again for passing along the information.
