Hi.
I'm new here. I was recently passed down a box of coins, That came from my great great grand parents. Some very authentic looking ones. But I know nothing, and it is overwhelming trying to Google search, when you have no clue what you are doing. I browsed here and saw some post that lead me to believe this coin even though it is not magnetic, it is too round and too thick to be real...And I have no clue about the dimes.. This is just a mere few of what is in the box, I am like a deer in headlights everytime I look at it.. So I figured I'd join and I'd ask if any of you would please give me your educated opinions..Any info would be appreciated..
Thank you
Wendy

Welcome to treasurenet. I am no coin expert, but the dimes look like normal silver dimes. The pine shilling looks like a replica to me. The seam on the edge is a dead giveaway in my opinion. Hopefully some of the real experts on here will chime in with a more definitive answer. Good luck with th rest of your coins.

Hi A2coins and thank you.. :-)
I checked the dimes again, I just have 2- 1918's, a 1935 and a 1941..
Here are a few pics of some Canadian coins. I can not find anything of the one with a B on it..

Welcome to Tnet Wendy ! It does appear that the pine tree coin is a copy , the texture of the surfaces looks cast- rather than struck or hammered . The dimes look just fine (silver is fine indeed !)

The four mercury dimes are 90% silver and the 1987 dime looks to have damage from the minting process and also is struck off centered. That is why the grandparents had it saved.Your coin with the B on it is from Belgium, Google 1972 belgie that is how I found it.

You are correct about the pine tree, definitely a copy, it is one of the most heavily copied early American coins. Nice silver dimes. keep posting them!

Welcome to T-Net. Coin on the bottom left in the second pic is a Great Britain sixpence and the bottom left is a Switzerland 20 Rappen.

The pine tree shilling is definitely a replica. As for the mercury dimes they all appear genuine to me. But I can't see anyone making a fake mercury dime unless it was a 1916 D anyway.
