HI all, am in Ok and there are some old farm houses most are ready to fall down, how do you go about finding the owner to see about detecting around it. no addresses, or marking. Also what rules are there for this, to include city land. Am new at this and want to do it right?

To locate the owner go to the tax assessors office. Cant help you with the laws.

Yep that right Tax assessors, tks

I hunted a few near Enid, a couple of years ago. You just have to watch out for the rattle snakes and skunks.

If you find out that they're city land (like abandoned so eminent domain, etc...), I would just go ahead and hunt them. But to be technical, if you found out that some private party owned the land, then technically you'd need to ask.

In Oklahoma, correct me if I'm wrong, but starting in the 1940s and '50s, a lot of farms got abandoned as agriculture made the shift to larger coorporate concerns. Ie.: no longer could a family "make a living" off of 100 acres or whatever. In the age of mechanization and increasingly larger and complex harvesters, marketing, etc... all the small farms gave way to the mega coorporations. right? So you might find random abandoned farms that were never torn down yet. And technically, sure, they might belong to some mega farmer in a distant city or state. And so ... to be technical ...

Do an internet search... In your search engine, type the name of your local county/parish followed by "GIS". This will bring up web sites with your local online tax maps. Get familiar with it, learn to use it. There are several different "consoles" so each has a different appearance and functions differently. Learn to use it and you can search for the property you have questions about. You should be able to find the name and address of who owns the land. From there go ask permission.
