Hey iv been metal detecting for about 3 years now and im using a fisher f4 its good found lots of great stuff but i want to upgrade and get something waterproof. So im stuck between the at pro or the at gold. Iv been doing lots of reading up on both but still not sure. Kind of leaning to the at gold because im not by any salt water and i use all metal mode now. But everyone really speaks good about the at pro. If anyone one could spare there thoughts or experience with one or both it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Another good one to look at is the new White's MXSport.

Thanks. I have looked at it but not a big fan. Its really just the at pro or at gold. But thank you it was good to know .

Since you said you like all metal mode, I'd go with the AT Gold. I'm pretty sure AT Pro doesn't have a true all metal mode.

You both got great points and thets y im having such a hard time picking witch one to get. Im not prospecting but the gold goes deeper and has all metal mode. The at Pro is good in salt water and better mineralization. Its really a hard call for me.

Go with the pro and get a big NEL coil for added depth . That is what I am going to do as I just went over the same thing as you are and I have made up my mind . Watch some youtube vids and search the net for a review of the two .I found plenty of info that way .

I love it, do your research and in the end go with your gut. I read and looked at videos three months before I bought my ATP, since there was no chance of gold other than gold rings in my area I went with the ATP but mostly because of my gut feeling. I did the same when I bought my V3i. Once I bought them I didn't look back, actually other than tips for use in different modes I never questioned my decision.

Every time I find myself reading about a new model or the success some guys have with different brands I get the itch to try a different one. At 71 yrs old don't need a new detector

Good luck on your choice.

Ya im leaning towards at pro but it doesn't have all metal mode. But do i realy need all metal mode ?

I tell this story often. After sending in my F75 for a upgrade my hunting buddys thought it would be nice to let me use the AT Pro on a old camp hunt. Now I used to be one of the haters and just could not believe all the claims folks was making about the AT Pro. Now as you can imagine some folks may be confused about their claims lol. I was left with a different attitude and eventually bought the AT Pro. While I would tell you the T2 is now in the same price range. You will be happy with the AT Pro and I suggest the 5x8 coil. The earlier comments are dead on and you should look at what you want to find and get the best detector for the job. I have not found anything wrong with the build quality. Battery consumption is a little heavy but I use rechargeables so not a issue with the AT Pro. While you can use Iron Audio to sort junk targets. I suggest you dig every repeatable target. I dont use coin mode and so far very comfortable on Pro mode. I have seen the AT Pro dig coins at 10" inches with the stock coil. I prefer the separation of the smaller 5x8 coil and love the proportional audio that gets louder as you get closer to the target. While there have been some complaints about the head phones I found them light and a joy to use. They have adjustable sound knobs so you can even out the sound in each ear or lower to your preference. I also dont see the need of the more expensive Pin Pointers as I use my old black Garret PP for most hunts. I can tell you the AT Pro is not as sensitive as my F75, but that is not a problem unless you really wanna find all the small wire targets you have been walking over in the park. The AT Pro is light and you can swing it all day. I am happy with my purchase of the AT Pro and have a few years experience and appreciate how easy the AT Pro is to use.

I own both, but if I could only own just one I would go with the AT Gold. I like hearing the threshold (I'm old-school); it has a true all-metal mode, and better (more crisp/detailed) audio than the AT Pro. It also has a more advanced ground balancing system, as I've noticed the ground balance numbers run about 10 less than the Pro on the same soil, even when using the same coil. The AT Gold is also more sensitive to gold, which is a plus for me as I hunt for jewelry with it. The 5x8 coil is also exceptional at target separation, although you can get that coil for AT Pro. I also have the 4.5-inch sniper coil, which comes in handy in really trashy/tight spots.

Another plus for the AT Gold, for me, is since I only use iron discrimination as I like to hear the rest of the targets in the ground, and the AT Gold does that, exceptionally well. It might be a little too "chatty" for some, but once I got mine after about 80-100 hours with it I learned it's "language;" what just about everything sounds like, as I dug just about everything one will find in a park that is non-ferrous... The great thing about that was/is I can tell with about 80% (or better) accuracy if the target is a modern pull-tab, which is a huge advantage…

Either way, you can’t go wrong. Both the AT Pro and the AT Gold are awesome machines!

I'm pretty new to detecting, and maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I think there is a difference between all metal and zero discrimination. On my Racer 2, all metal mode has settings like a background threshold sound and different capabilities than running with zero discrimination. It also produces different test results.

If there was no real difference between "true" all metal and simple zero discrimination, then the only difference between the AT Gold and the AT Pro is the frequency.

Either way you can't go wrong, but, do your own research on true all metal mode and see if it's something you require. I'd venture a quick phone call to Garrett will help clear things up.

I see here some people do not understand the All Metal mode is different. With most detectors you get a fake tone--think of the ATP beginner mode versus pro mode. Well, the same difference between the pro mode and the true All Metal mode. There is more (real) info that you can hear but it has a learning curve most people have the AMM phobia. If you are a beginner, you probably want to stick with the ATP. As Clive Clynick says (Gold Jewelry Hunter's Handbook--good book if you All Metal) he gets most of his stuff by working in AMM behind the people who use discriminate. Now if that doesn't convince you then stick with the ATP.

I can recommend you the AT Pro

Besides using the Kellyco site to actually compare detectors, you may want to watch actual videos on youtube showing air test and sensitivity to items like nails and rings. Depth and discrimination will be very important to you. Not digging trash will also be very clear real quick. This sport is always changing, and the next new gadget is just around the corner. Being confident your equipment is working is done by using it till you know exactly what it is telling you. The question as to what to buy is asked all the time. I am happy with my purchases and hope you are too. Good luck.

Thank you vary much everyone for helping me with my decision. You all have been extremely helpful and informative. I appreciate all your time and words .im pretty sure on witch one im going to get. Ill post witch one i get.thanks again. Happy hunting.

If was me, between the two you mentioned, ATP

I'd like to see Clive write a book specifically on the All Metal mode detecting. I just have to believe more than 98% of all detectors have the all-metal phobia. And it's because they don't understand anything about it. You can get a lot more target info from all metal than discriminate, and pick up many missed targets. Clive says you can get better ferrous/non-ferrous discrimination with all metal. I bet most people immediately think that is false. And of course all metal works better for finding gold. Think about it, discrimination does not work on deep targets--you miss it completely. He says people are addicted to the tones and they don't listen to the real sounds that only all metal gives. Of course there is a learning curve even after reading his books but at least you have a very good starting point knowledge.

I also get the feeling people think once you are in All Metal you have to stay there. Yeah, you have to use your thumb to push the button to change to DISC mode. I realize that is too much trouble for some people. At least the buttons are situated so you can use the same hand you are holding the detect with. Some people just don't get it...and never will.

There are several good on-line training videos on the Garrett.com website. It's all free. I highly suggest you view them to help with your decision. The AT Gold has many excellent features and I like them all. It does hit on small targets, but you can turn down the sensitivity. At full blast on All Metal, a small piece of aluminum foil sounds like a silver dollar. If you speed up the coil sweep it will break up but gold will be even stronger. It you're into hunting bullets, it really hits lead hard. It hits gold harder than silver, but it still hits silver very good.
