AT Pro user flirting with getting an E-Trac

I thought I would ask a $1000 question.

I have an AT I have been using for the last 6 months. I like it well enough....but I keep finding myself looking over the E-Trac and have put in some inquiries to dealers. I've read the user manual 5 times now and play with the emulator off and on learning the settings and changing the discrimination pattern.

I really like the audio on it.

The trouble is... does the 1k price difference between my AT and the E-Trac make it worth it to buy one you think?

I dont have a "corner office" job, so coughing up the $1600 is quite a big deal to me.

Look at it this way ,you will have a machine for lakes and rainy day hunting and then the Etrac which is costly but one of the best on the market . I am still learning my Etrac but I am impressed with its love of silver. 1400-1600 is a lot to pay and I would not pay that much unless you are going to get a lot of dig time. I sold an old project car and bought my etrac before the wife knew I had the money.

I went from a DFX to the Etrac. I made the right decision and I'm not looking back

I always thought I would hate the Minelab audio but the Etrac really isn't too bad. For reference I have used a V3i and other Whites, Tesoro, Teknetics and Fisher detectors. The Etrac ID system is different from the rest. Not hard, but different. I have only had my Etrac a few weeks and have kept it in the factory coin mode until I get accustomed to the operation and audio. I got the Sabisch book after using it for a couple of weeks and that helps explain the logic of their ID system. I'm happy with it's coin hunting abilities. I have not found any gold jewelry with it. It does get a little heavy but keeping the shaft adjusted short helps that. Also when you are shopping if you can do without all the extra stuff in the packages tell the dealer and you might be able to save some cash. I bought mine from Big Boys Toys (Bart) and am very satisfied.

Just buy a used Explorer first. If after that you feel like you're missing something, buy the ETrac.

AT pro and etrac or explorer is very different detectors, if you hunt allot and like this hobby, buy it its very good detector and keep atpro. have all explorers and etrac and can say etrac is good like old explorers with some faster brains if you like to use it with discrimination.
