Still trying to figure out ATP's "manual" ground balance feature. I know how...I don't know when to employ and/or whether to set "higher" or "lower" than auto balance figure????

I hunt primarily along inland riverbed...so I encounter dry and wet sand environ, but little or no salt to my knowledge. I do suspect moderate "iron" in the general mix. Normal "auto" ground balance figure is high 80's to low 90's.

Your input/feedback is welcome and immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've had mine for about 7 months and I depend on auto GB ; but I do GB 4 or 5 times in a 4 hr hunt.. As most of the areas Ive hunted the soil changes from on patch to another. from sandy soil to high mineralized clay. just a good practise to check it often. I dont know if this makes a difference but I always turn my sens down b4 I GB then back to my hunting setting

You can always bury a test target at the edge of your detection range then gb to that. One guy told me he used a 22 shell casing.

Sounds like your machine is working. There are a couple hints in the AT Gold instruction manual on the Garrett website.

Try it both ways the next time you find a good target in the field and decide what hits the best with your soil conditions. I think sometimes people are hurting their depth by randomly dropping the GB.
