Hey all,
I just wanted to post this painting I got from an auction for $20.00. It's signed by someone with the last name Berk. And after some research I am pretty sure it is by V. Berk, 1950's artist. It has a tear on the canvas, buy its only visible from the back of it. Is it worth anything? Here are some pictures :)

I If the painting is valuable , a repair can be done by an professional restorer , (don't try this at home) many times it will quadruple the value .

. Your painting has much better appeal than the one in my link . Seascapes are nice , but if there's a sailboat too on a rough sea ..........Awesome !
a restorer will also clean it , bringing the colors out more . Good luck !

Looks like a large water stain on the back, if it is did it affect the front?

The front is fine, the year can only be visible on the back, but if it is on the front, I coudn't find it, lol

Not year, sorry I meant tear

It's what is known as a "starving artist" piece. The artist has painted many of these, very similar in scene, to be sold to wholesalers or at traveling art shows, conventions etc.. Generally the value is modest, unless the artist has developed a following. Ship scenes are a popular theme and it makes sense that the artist would use that subject in order to generate interest in his works. It is vintage, unfortunately with value it's not worth having restored, as it would cost more to do that than the picture is worth.
