I have visited a lot of antique malls for a lot of years and seen a lot of arrowheads for sale. Nine times out of ten they are obvious fakes and the rest are way overpriced. Today I bought this one for $10 glued to a background and stuck in a frame near Lake Whitney, TX. I don't know a great deal about arrowheads but this one is flint and has been knapped by someone. I see bulb of percussion and the flake scars don't look flat and chiseled like most phonies I see. It might be a little thicker than it ought to be? I guess the reason I suspect it may be modern is because it just looks too perfect to me. What do you think? Did I stumble onto an authentic point or does it show obvious signs of being a reproduction to the trained eye?

My two cents… which I’m purely speculating, it strikes me as the deluxe edition of your typical points that come from India, the material looks exotic and I’m not sure I’ve seen a dovetail with corner notches like that, they seem too low and angled up pretty far, and on such a narrow preform, almost like a notched cobbs, it smells like someone picked an appealing shape, that and the way the light hits both sides kind of looks like it may have started as a slab, again like points from India
BUT…. I’m no expert on Texas points, there may very well be a historic point type that matches, the material could be an agatized wood or something found in Texas and there does seem to be more effort than a point from india, also the notched are a little asymmetrical so maybe a hint that it’s authentic…
I’m sure people that know better than me will be along to help you and straighten me out if I’m mistaken but something just doesn’t seem right about it.

Dang, alright. Thanks everyone for replying. I wish I could easily spot the reproduction in it, fooled me. I can take some pics of REALLY obvious ones that make this thing look like a beauty. When I scratched it with my nail and smelled flint I just had to chance it. Thanks again.

I agree with reproduction for all of the above reasons. Plus, it looks very thick for a dovetail and a lot of the area on each face is flat which is an indication it was a slab that was sawn and shaped before it was knapped.

Here's a two-dollar junk store point I bought to play a joke on a friend.

Looks like a reproduction, way too thick for dovetail, like TDog said it appears to have been sliced with stone saw in pictures posted and the knapping doesn't look right either, too random.

These are mostly what the obvious to me fakes look like that I usually encounter.

I'd say repros. I have two exactly like that one, pretty much same material. They were marked as repros from India (genuine 'Indian' arrowheads). I bought them cause it was pretty fair work, and I got a better deal than you, 5 bucks apiece.
