I believe they used them as is till they needed something else and then changed them to what was needed.

It looks to have been re-sharpened so I am not thinking it is a pre form, but rather a very nice blade.

That came from St. Joseph, MO. area...I think.
It appears to be a fine piece of KRF and if so it has traveled about 900 miles
from its North Dakota source. The Hopewell saw KRF as an exotic high grade
attractive toolstone …they really liked it and so do I.
The above coment is based on the assumption of it being found in southern Illinois.
