I believe they used them as is till they needed something else and then changed them to what was needed.

awesome looks like an adena blade

Whatever its classified as its still a beautiful piece. The translucence is just amazing.

That is a beautiful find. Thanks for sharing.

That's a great find and I would call that a knife blade JMO:icon_thumleft:

awesome translucent preform...maybe a blade.

It appears to be a fine piece of KRF and if so it has traveled about 900 miles
from its North Dakota source. The Hopewell saw KRF as an exotic high grade
attractive toolstone …they really liked it and so do I. :icon_thumright:

The above coment is based on the assumption of it being found in southern Illinois.

"I'm in southern IL."
"I live near a big Hopewell area."
"I have never hunted in Ohio all pieces were found in southern IL...Saline and Gallatin counties."

My first thought was Knife River Flint as well. And you found it in Ill?

It looks to have been re-sharpened so I am not thinking it is a pre form, but rather a very nice blade.

That came from St. Joseph, MO. area...I think.

No worries. I use to travel for my work and tried to hunt the local areas and most always picked up a piece or two :) It is cool that you know the trail of the material. May I ask what KRF is??
