Axe head

Recently wemt MDing at a early colonial site, late 1700's to early 1800's, the settlers left the area and has been a remote woods area since. Found some sort of axe head but can't find anything like it to identify it. I can't figure out how the handle attached (maybe broken ? ) or what the hole is for. Any idea on its age or how it was used. Thanks

Thats a late 1700's ye ole headsmasher.....lol. But on A serious note....I have no idea.

Not an axe head, but a felling wedge. When sawing down a tree with a crosscut saw, these were pounded into the kerf so the saw blade wouldn't be pinched.
