I found an axe head while metal detecting on a piece property dated 1897. I know nothing about it except the possible maker's mark and the weight. It's 3 3/4 lbs and for all I know it maybe modern aged. I've attached a few pics and any info would be appreciated about the mark. The mark looks like a "D" or a roman numeral 2 inside a jar shaped object.

Looks like probably a hatchet head rather than an axe. Seems to me 6 1/2 inches isn't large enough for an axe. I could go out
to the shop and measure one, but then I'm a little lazy and short of time right now.
