Went out today by myself and found this, my first grooved axe head. When I saw it, I thought that there had been some kind of mistake. Shoot, I'm an old fisherman. I almost threw it back for being to small. Not exactly what I had envisioned for my first one, but I quess I'll keep it. ;D

Nice Find.

Good thing you came to your senses.

That is sweet! I saw a fully hafted one that size at the Illinois State Museum that was a beautiful gray. I would love to find one that small. Congrats!

:wav: Wow you wont find many of those in a life time. Congratulations.

That looks too small to be much of an axe. Did they have skull crackers back then> Seems like it would be just the right size for a defensive item to use against two legged prey.

Real nice little axe! I still haven't found one, but that one is even cooler with the bottom being fluted an all, congrats!

super little pocket axe. I have always wanted to find one. Maybe this year.

I am no expert but if that was lashed to about an 18 inch handle you could sure give someone a long term headache. I see a lot of the bigger ones found and posted but I don't remember seeing one this size. Great find, I would document everything about where and when you found it. I am not sure but that seems like a pretty rare piece.

My brother! That is the coolest thing!!!!! I dream of finding any kind of axe and you have found an unusual and great looking one. I would display that proudly and get back to the area that I found it and do a thorough search. Great job!

Thanks everbody! I can't help to wonder, how many of those little guys have I walked by, looking for a bigger one? :icon_scratch:

Hell yea bean!!!!! I'd take it for my first. You don't find many with the fluted bottom. Definitely one of a kind and definitely a keeper my friend.

The first one is always the hardest. Now you got that out of the way!

Thanks and keep your eyes on the ground.

Thanks Steve! Think how many miles of streams and rivers a guy would have to walk just to find a fraction of the axes you guys have found in one little old field. :o
