First 3 look like a modern bullet that has hit something & mushroomed.

Agreed. Base makes it look like a shotgun slug, but with no perspective, hard to tell. Your iron object could be anything. Wire-wheel it, and discover what you've got! Can't wait to see the block I!

I'm finding some objects likeyour last picture. My brother-in-law who worked at a steel mill here in Cleveland identified it as slag! Is there a steel mill near you?

I would do an electrolysis bath for the iron, At least then, you can get some details. Letting it dry out in this condition may cause it to crumble.Size reference would be good.

Great idea on electrolysis. No steel mill in area but since object found on former battlefield ground I am cautiously optimisic. It is about 6 inches long.

it almost looks the right shape for a boot pistol, is the non crusty end round and hollow like a barrel?

About my thoughts too. Looking at the pic, the top left of the item looks to be the top of a barrel. There is a straight line there, and the old rule is, there are no straight lines in nature. I'd really like to see what's under the corrosion.

Yeap, 20th C Shotgun Slug & ?

Just curious, what is wire-wheel it? I'm new to this and don't know the language yet.

A wire wheel is just what it sounds like, a disk with stiff wire bristles that you attach either to a drill or grinder to clean metal with. I wouldn't use one on this piece just in case it is something interesting I wouldn't want to chance breaking any brittle parts off of it. Electrolysis would be my plan.

Oh OK I know what that is now. Thank you.

Going to do electrolysis. Will let you know.
