Well, after that last hunt where I found the quarter and the Walker, I took a break from the swinging, for a pretty good reason. For the last year or so, I have noticed that I have had some lower back pain. It would come and go without warning and didn't seem to be caused by any particular activity. Over the last few months, it became progressively worse. I was cutting my hunts really short due to the pain and strain in my back, and the pain would last and last. It became hard to pinpoint the origin of the pain, since besides detecting, I also enjoy biking, hiking, and excersizing, not to mention the fact that I am on my feet seven hours a day. I understood that my posture is not the best but couldn't do much about that. It is very difficult to try to stand and sit differently from how your body is inclined to for any amount of time. I began suffering severe pain after a few weed-pulling affairs and one or two detecting excursions so I decided I needed to see a doctor. My doctor thought I may have had Sacroiliitis. I had read about that condition and hoped and prayed that's not what I had, since it sounded REALLY bad! He sent me to a specialist who ran some tests and determined I did not have sacroiliitis but instead have a spinal birth defect. I guess my lowest vertebrae is out of sequence with the others and too far up above my tailbone. Well, that scared the crap out of me, especially when he told me this was a chronic condition that cannot be cured, but only treated. He explained to me that this is relatively common, but normally doesn't manifest itself until the individual is in his or her older years. lol, so here I am, arthritic at 28 and feeling pretty old!! The good news is that I have stopped doing many of the excersizes that were irritating the joint and have begun doing new ones that are supposed to help. I am also on meds that help to decrease the inflammation. A few weeks ago it felt like someone was taking a fork into my lower back and digging it in every time I moved. Now, I am able to function more or less like I did before, not without the pain but with less pain. The doctor told me that detecting or digging holes or weeds shouldn't harm the area, only constant twisting of my back and cracking of my back that I used to do to temporarily alleviate the pain. So anyway, after another long hiatus, I was back at it saturday for a few hours and got a silver dime. Since I don't have internet at the new house until later this week, I won't be able to scan it and show you guys until then, but you all know what a worn '46 Rosey looks like! I am hoping to get out again soon, as long as my body agrees with me. I also hope to be more active on here than I was over the last few months. I went through and scanned through the latest slew of finds posts and am impressed as always! Gotta run, the lunch hour is about up...
Happy hunting guys,
Joe
