I've been reading all the old post here in the Tesoro section. I recently got the Deleon, I am loving it! If I understand right the Cortez has a backlight. Can anyone tell me if Tesoro can "add" the backlight feature to my Deleon? I would of course pay to have it done.

You could ask them. I wonder if there is enough extra battery power for the tiny light.

Hey shanegalang,

I had read a post somewhere on here (I can't remember where it was) where a guy just took a small LED light and attached it to the face plate with velcro, it worked really well and it only cost him about $5. You might want to consider something like that, you wouldn't have to send in your detector and you wouldn't have to worry about your battery life.

Just a suggestion

my DFX has back lite but I just use a little AAA archery light ($7) walmart and point it to my display

Get one of those little head lights you mount on a hat. But, you might ask yourself this question:
"If it is so dark that I need a back light, shouldnt I go home to supper?"

If you're relic hunting in deep woods on an overcast day, I guarantee you'll need a light of some kind to see an LCD screen.

lol or feed the critters

shanegalang,

I wish I knew the answer to your question but I don't. If if you don't want to call Tesoro just say the word and I would be glad to call them for you. As someone else mentioned, you could go with a small LED light mounted with Velcro etc. I use a baseball cap light in dark situations. I think it's better because it also helps digging (In those dark holes or in the water early in the A.M.) The display backlight is only good to read the screen with. Thanks again for buying from me, I'm glad your happy with your DeLeon. Joe

Short Answer NO.

I called Tesoro and they told me in no uncertain terms there was no way they could add a backlight to the Deleon. I did what was mentioned and posted it here on the forum. I bought an led light with a bendable neck and zip/cable tied it to the bottom of the machine. I then angle the light onto the face plate and it works like a charm.

I don't use it any more though since I went to a headlight for night hunting and I don't need a backlight any more.

Hope this helps.

Master Eagle.......thanks for the note. How do the Deleon and Xterra 30 compare? Do you prefer one over the other? Pros and cons of each? Thanks, Shane

I think each machine has it's pros and cons

The major advantage of the 30 is that it is not as prone to electrical interference as the Deleon is.

The Deleon is a much deeper machine. The TID on the D is easier for me to remember and understand.

The 30 is much better at IDing nickels.

The 30 is LIGHT! but so is the D.

The D takes 8 batteries vs 4 on the X. The pinpointing on the X is cool and easy to use.
