We were out on another section of the Cutoff today, and Dave had all the luck. First he found an interesting medallion about 2" x 1 3/4", of brass, with a large star in the center, with 4 smaller stars in a circular pattern beneath. Later he found a token for 2 1/2c from Miller's Famous Resort at the N.E. corner of 8th & Main (no city). Pics below. Anybody has ideas on these, we'd appreciate the help.

Nice finds and great pictures of that token!

Nice finds and great pictures of that token!

It was a bit beat up, but flattened it between two pieces of pine with my arbor press, and put in CLR for 10 minutes to get rid of the grime. A little side lighting to bring out the type, with my Olympus TG-2, and Voila!....LOL

Another friend said the brass item is a heelplate. I hadn't thought of that.

Yes, it does look like a heel plate. Nice finds.

Heard from another forum the heel plate is Civil War era 1860-1880, and worn only by sergeants. It was found about 1 1/2 miles east of where I found the civil war medallion from a cartridge box 10 days ago.

Awesome token find! :occasion14:

I'd say heal plate as well. Nice one too!

How in heck did you find that, Nif? They want $24.00 to see what it sold for. I'm going to send the link to Dave, and he can decide if HE wants to pay the $24 to find out what it's worth, since he found it...LOL Many thanks, Buddy...I owe you one!

Hey Jim, my x wife says I should have been a private investigator...

LOL....I wouldn't argue against that!
