Back to an old Friend (Field)

I first detected this site in 2014; I now only detect it once a year every Victoria Day - Weekend. This site became a no-till site almost 10-years ago, so the finds tend to be few and far between now. An early home built of wood once stood here and likely burned before 1910, as most of the relics I’ve found date to the late 19th century. I adjusted the settings on my Deus to improve depth and sensitivity. The bronze animal bell was nearly 10 inches deep, and the China figurine head was a cool surface find. The decorative iron piece was probably from a square wood stove.

The four most common relics I find in farm fields are buckles, buttons, bells and coins.
Trust me, the more time you spend in the fields, the more likely you are to find your first crotal bell.
See pic below... I found this example with the clay marble in the same field last year.

Thanks for your post Almy... these mid-19thc animal bells are fairly common finds here in Ontario.
Yes, most likely from a cow or maybe a goat, a lot of sheep farmers settled in this area in the 1850s as well.
