One more trip before winter.cabin is way up in the middle of nowhere.found a couple old shotgun shells again.one is a wra co star 12 gauge.the other is a USC. Co climax 12 gauge.along with a few huge billet casing.its interesting the key was found nowhere near the old cabin site it was in the middle of the woods just walking around.found a square nail that is split .not sure if it was made that way.the coolest fine is the b g i co pat 1883 brass piece to a ram rod for a gun.thinking black powder but not sure.this site is around the 1880s so the finds are still dating to that period.also can't tell if these are ax heads or maybe splitting mauls because they are so squished in on the back side.i know they had some kind of blacksmithing setup near the cabin.maybe they were made up there IMG_1869.webpIMG_1896.webpIMG_1867.webpIMG_1868.webp

Looks like a great spot. 1891 dime? Heck that would make my day. Good Luck with your future hunts!

Looks like you have a "go-to" site in your back pocket. I'd be elated to dig that skeleton key.

Those look like old axe heads to me. Probably used as wedges or mauls at some point, thats what flattened the opening for the handle. Nice finds, lookslike you've got a good spot there.

It kind of is my go to spot because it's so far and steep to get to. One the reason why it's never been touched you can never find it. Here's a picture of some of the better stuff I've found up there so far. I have found handfuls of square nails and screws and other bits of odd metal. There's the main cabin area which dates around mid 1880s to around the turn-of-the-century. Then there's an earlier site right next to it that I think may have been the first cabin site working area when they open the mine up in 1878. The second site has nothing but square nails and older metal . The cabin site area has round head nails but still was built there before 1890.I have barely scratch the surface of this area and it's super hard to metal detect because of all the old metal trash buried in the ground from cans and what not. I have resorted to sifting the cabinet floor because of all the nails and the rusted metal which is how I found the 1891 dime.i'll think I will just work the spot off and on Mietal detecting and sifting and eventually hopefully work it all out and find some more coins
