Back to the WWI Dump.

From looking at the other posts, I was surprised to see that I wasn't the only one digging in WWI dump sites this weekend. Was out of town with a friend of mine, and we had time to go check on a dump site I had found years ago since we were pretty close to the area. The old dump is still producing a good mixture of relics. This was his first time dump digging and I think he is now hooked! Looks like I will be cleaning and running items thru electrolysis for a while to get everything cleaned up.

Yes, digging big holes and sifting the spoil piles. There is so much metal debris in there a detector is pretty much useless. The soil is mostly light fluffy ash from burning so you can move a substantial amount before you get wore out.

Yes, the stuff has the burned look to it. Andre's pencils work great to get the gunk off mechanically. They work fast too.

Good to know, I will have to give it a try. I have had good results with electrolysis on some items from here, but some is just too far gone.
