As Cru'Dad is away, I decided to dig a small test pit in someone's backyard.

It's within the area of a Roman Town, so I found pretty much what I expected;

5 Hours digging & filling.

Roman Pot shards
Animal Bones & Teeth
Oyster Shells
2 Roman Nails

He was very fond of his lawn.
So I did a good job putting the lawn back as good as new & got an invite back anytime.
Next time I need it a bit wider, I never got to the bottom of the Archaeology as it only started getting good at 120cm.

That's very interesting, looks like a lot of work

Dam, i dont know what to be impressed with more - the depth of the hole, the finds, that u put it back to spec, or that the landowner let you dig that. Aweseome!

Digging pits again! Man you are so lucky to live where you can dig down to roman times. Waiting what comes up next. iirc you did well last year with the pits.

We're starting to get higher temperatures. I hope you're not digging in the heat.
Congrats on coming up with so many artifacts .

I'd like to see Cru'Dad's eyes if you brought in a slightly larger shovel.

Perfect over-cast day after a week of rain.

My OCD really appreciates your careful attention to detail digging the pit, and categorizing the finds. Nice job

Love seeing you do the pit dig thing Cru, and you seem to definitely be in a nice spot there. And very professional looking job too! Hopefully more to come .....

That is cool! Can't believe how much is in the ground! Thanks for sharing. HH

Done lots of research on the spot, it's on a Roman crossroads inside of town. If I could have got deeper the finds would have improved, but at least I have a next time.

That is the nicest pit I've ever seen man! Even my 12" deep pits get a little sloppy around the edge as I dig down and my muddy shoes get dirt in the grass. That's cool that you kept the pottery separated by depth.... 120cm is deep too! Awesome job Cru and look forward to your next pit.

Holy cow that's a cleanly dug pit. Nicely done and hopefully you'll be doing more of this going forward.
