Just a guess, but that looks like a shell casing inside a harp? Possibly from a military band uniform? KS

Hey Kwik, That there is a lyre and what appears to be a shell casing is part of the lyre frame and the strings. Funny...I've been called a lyre before. Can't figure out why they would call me a musical instrument? Oh well, I take it as a compliment. That button really "looks" old. It looks like late 19th century or early 20th to me. I do not know much about buttons, though.
