banded slate loaf stone with string groove, PF Jay Co. Indiana. Found accidentally washing a 5-gallon bucket of slate is collected.

Google it.. it's a type of atlatl weight. Your friends looks to be a shaft abrader/straightener upper right, the bottom piece looks to be slate preform.

Thanks, yes shaft abrader was mentioned when I posted it earlier....so that is good confirmation.

The bottom one is chert, and I think is a big scraper, very thin for it's size.
