Found this the other day in Kentucky. The field we were hunting is a good one, but there was too little rain on it. The Unfluted clovis is in terrible shape, but it is interesting to see the fluting nipple on it. Base and sides heavily ground. Made of Fort Payne. Oddly enough, this is the second one this year in maybe 3 hunts.

Maybe it broke while knapping and was discarded. It doesn't show the fine detail on the cutting edge I've seen on some of the well made clovis points. Could be the reason the nipple is still there, never finished. Cool find either way.

Preform with an end shock break as nearly as I can tell.

Pieces like that are 100 times more valuable and interesting because they show HOW they were "getting there" in the finishing stage, and from where.

I highly recommend Bob Patten's "Peoples of the Flute" for getting a solid grasp of Clovis lithic techniques and procedures (although he unfortunately spends a lot of time talking about Folsom stuff in it :laughing7:)

Edit : Obviously didn't watch the video first. Duh . . .

Still a super, over-the-top choice relic !

hey ive got something that looks like that....

Yepper that was me. I have a better chance of being eaten by a Polar bear in Ohio than I do finding another one like I did last year. All one can do is try I guess. Thanks and take care.

That's a killer find in any condition. I'd have to say that one was probably too thin to flute.

Will you please show us that other one you've found recently?

Hi,

I just did some searching. It's on page 3 of the banner finds. Man those banner finds go back a long way! See ya.
