Hello. Just got the 705. Read the manual, read the 'getting to know' book. Been watching a lot of youtube.
I have yet to use my 705, but we leave to the mountains this Sat morning and would like to start rock'n it. I do know there is no "one setting" is perfect, but I made myself a list from what I understand. Would this be the right order, or does this sound about right? I will be using headphones. Thank you!

- Turn on
- Go to Prospecting mode
- Go to All Metal mode (AM)
- Sensitivity is set to 22 by default
- Noise cancel (circle with line through). Lift detector and hit the prospecting button and it sets itself
- Threshold (mountain icon), set to barley hear like a mosquito - headphone default is 8
- Tone (music icon) - set to 4
- Volume - max at 30
- Hit Ground Balance button. hold detector up 4in, hit the pickaxe button, pump until done
- Hit the AM button again to return to IM (iron mask) mode - default is 5

* once in awhile, ground balance again. Possibly threshold.
* If using auto tracking (~), be sure to switch it off when a target is found.

.

GF, the iron reject does not work if AM is selected and the number of tones has no affect on it. I would set the number of tones to 2 and zero disc. That way if you get tired of prospecting mode you can hop over to regular hunting in2 tone then back to prospecting mode. You are listening for a smooth, round zip,zip sound. The iron reject works pretty well as should be ok at 5. You will here the threshold blank out if it's iron.

Thanks man. I kinda understand most of that I think.
It's my understanding, that why I put it in AM is to ground balance. Or is that not needed - just balance in my 5 iron mask/prospecting mode?
This weekend I only am going to be looking for gold.

Also, the manual clearly states that the coil is submersible in water. However, the websites says it's only water resistant and do not submerge. so.. I guess I've never had a detector that the coil couldn't be submerged. even the cheapies. What's the real deal with this 18k coil?

Idk, it's absolutely crazy that it not submersible! I am no prospector by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe most nugget hunting is done in very dry creek beds etc?

Of the twelve available authorized coils for Xterras, only three are not waterproof. The 10.5" HF & MF DD coils and the 5x10" HF DD are the only ones that can't be submerged to 1 meter. They can still take the occasional wave splash, getting hosed off, or hunt in wet grass w/o issue.

Some folks have reported that they've effectively waterproofed theirs by sealing the coil cover to the top section of the coil, as well as sealing around where the grommet goes into the coil, and where the coil wire enters the grommet.

Ok, thanks! I will not bath with her.
We leave early tomorrow morning.. hop'n for some AU! :D
