I go for many, many hunts before changes. In fact I'm on only the third one in 2 years.

Thanks Li. Hopefully just a bad battery.

Same here. I carry a spare, just in case, because I'm a Girl Scout. Battery life has been good for me.

As I'm getting one of these shortly, I'm interested to hear if it is a bad battery or a defect with the pointer.

For some reason my batteries last a lot longer if they are removed between hunts.
If left for a week or two not used it seems they need to get changed when I use them again during a hunt.
Be careful where the batteries are stored though and that the contacts don't contact.
They can get real hot in a pocket with coins in it......:sadsmiley::laughing7:

I believe two is one and one is none. But I didn't follow my own practices and didn't have a spare. SHAME ON ME.

The new AT Pro Pointer eats batteries if you don't turn it over between hunts!? I am not sure why but my first 2 batteries didn't last 2 hunts, now on my 3rd battery turning it around and 3 good all day hunts no problems!

I have found the included battery in these pin pointers are not always of the highest quality. I usually take the included battery and replace it with it a quality duracell. I have 4 hours on my first battery in my new AT pin pointer. Works fine for me and compares to the battery life in my original Garrett pin pointer.

Most pinpointers are pulse induction (the reason you get that faster beep the closer to the metal) and uses more power to achieve that function. My XPointer goes for about 4 four hour hunts on and off and will start it's low battery signal. The battery isn't completely dead, as it takes more than 60% to run the PI signal. Just carry an extra 9V and you should be OK. The new Deteknix Xpointers are 1-9V or 2-AA, to match having the same batteries of all detectors now that use non rechargeable.

I got about 6 hours out of the Eveready battery that came with my Pro pointer. It died on me during a hunt and I did not have a spare. I walked to a store and paid a lot of $ for a 2 pack of Duracell Quantum 9v's as that was all they had. I was opposed to paying over $10 for 2 9 volts at first but these batteries surprised me. I have 6 or 7 hunts in since then, maybe 20 hours on the Pro pointer, and the first quantum is still working good. Of course now that I have typed this , it will die on me the next hunt! I always carry spares now so I'll be ok. HH:thumbsup:

DONT DESPAIR BRING A SPARE.

Thanks Cruiser

I hunt very trashy areas and use my pro pointer a lot, 2-4 hour hunt per week, probably use 2 Every-ready batteries per season.

Thanks Msbeep

Just got my pro-pointer yesterday and have used it for probably 8 hours already with no issues. Walking out the door to take it for another run when I reach the end of this sentenc..... <couldn't wait>

It was probably a bad battery packed with the new pointer. Changed battery today and had no issues.

Thanks Stephen

Follow-up:

I received my carrot yesterday and decided to take it for a drive out of the box. I, too, had an issue with the battery. After about an hour and a half it began toning low battery. I did end up using it for over 2 hours, and it didn't completely die on me, but the battery it's packaged with just seems to be the issue. I'm going to buy a higher-quality and try again.

On the plus side, this thing is awesome. I'm still a newb at detecting, but I'm glad I invested in one at the beginning. Won't leave home without it now.
