Took A friend to See her father, Korean war vet. It was 92 degrees and the line was 1/2 mile long and 45 mins to get the car in the gate. I had a few thoughts that made me really think as I walked along the rows and rows of grave markers.....These people buried here named Perez and Melendez and Rodriguez were veterens of all the wars in over the last 100 years and more, not a Smith or Jones or Jackson in sight. They were part of the American armed forces in all branch's.The President of the United States asked them to go to war, the same President that they have never been able to vote for, for whatever reason, thats not important really. They went. I wondered... Was the english they spoke good enough ? Were they treated as equals when or if they came home? How many were buried here that never made it home alive ? I saw a young girl and her mother at the husbands grave, she had never met her father but came to see him on this day buried among the rest of the fallen. One small story told in spanish yet just as heartbreaking as any told in english.I wondered why I had never seen such crowds when I lived in the states and asked my friend what it was like here on Veterens day. She told me the last time she had to park and walk to the cemetery as the lines were just too long. There were few graves that had no flowers on them, the whole field had come alive in bright colors and crowds of people, some crying and some laughing and other just staring in silence.I saw a few men in uniforms and others in civilian clothes that carried themselves in a way that I just knew they were here to see a fallen comrade. I took a few pictures and almost felt guilty... like I was eavesdropping on a families sorrow. I spoke to a few families and told them that I was amazed at the crowds and for the most part most seemed intrigued that I had not seen a sight like this in the states.I was there for 3 hours and the cars and groups of people just kept coming and coming.Yet I seem to be rambling on so I will cut it short here and let you get to the few pictures I took.

Yes thanks for sharing this. It is places like this that will put things in perspective.
Thanks.

awesome...........was this a special day for veterans in Puerto Rico? for such a large turnout, or is this pretty much an everyday thing?

From what I gather Veterens Day, Memorial Day, and a few other days are really busy days, I want to go back on a less crowded and cooler day and take a few pics. I was amazed at the crowds leading into the place and the mile or so leading into it was lined with flower salesman and food vendors and people parked and walking in. Quite a feat for a day as hot as it was.As I was leaving, we had a downpour as is normal here this time of year and it didn't slow the crowds it seemed. Next trip I will post the pics here and as my health allows I will try to get a few of the other sites into a post or two. I would never have thought going there would have had the affect it had on me, it was amazing
