That's Freaky, your dog looks just like ours :o
And, to me, your find is a work of art - especially if it is 30 feet high and just as wide.
Any possibility of a different pic, preferably with something to show the scale.
Could it be a Maker's Stamp?

I'm intriqued by have no idea... maybe when you get a chance you can take a few more pics at different angles... :-\

I agree with trikikiwi... 'cept for the dog stuff, mine looks different than yours. :D

There is obvious engraving/writing along the shoulder. Please send a clear pic of that area.

There appears to be a circular shape below the 'shoulder' about the middle of the 'blade'

Kinda looks like a bolt from a door knob, just looking at the wear on the angled side, where it hits the lockstrike. probably from an older door mechanism.

I believe you have the ID! NICE!

The bent over tab on the strike plate illustration is where the bolt hit.

Kia Ora, Awesome find and well identified MEinWV. I presume the holes in the 'top' held the springs.
It does look old. Any chance it came from a ship wreck?
