Gidday all, went to the beach with hubby over the weekend and met up with another detecting couple. We had a great couple of days, weather wise, and had some success, particualarly my hubby with his ring finds, a 9ct gold and platnum ring, and a silver with a zirconia. Thought I'd post a few photos of our finds and his detecting set up for underwater detecting! Hope you like the pics. Ang :)

Angela, way to go! I like your beach and shallow water hunting. Hookah rig and a couple of Minelab Excalibur's, life doesn't get any better.

Tom

P.S. did I get all those other post for you?

Yes you did, thank you Tom! Yeh, hookah is the way to go for shallow underwater detecting. This summer I'm hoping to do a bit more myself with Garry, but for now, the water is too cold for me, so I stay on the dry sand. But he's really keen, and loves the Excal.

Hi Angela pleased you are doing well with Excal, hope alls well with bubs, looks like Aussie site has gone.I have been away in caravan but didnt do any good, no rings got about 100 coins from around a couple of country towns in parks etc. Tried in water last week locally after a storm but didnt do any good. The water was filthy, and full of seaweed the sand has built up over what used to be good gutters, will have to wait for another storm to hopefully shift the sand again. I have gold ring similar to yours gold with a platinum band around it. I like your hookah set up, wish I could do it that way myself but I have ear problems and diving is out for me. On the news tonight it says two fishermen in a boat were hassled by a white pointer close in shore near where I detect, looks like I had better keep my eyes open. goodhunting seeya Neilo

Hey Angela ...Nice to hear from you! Great finds! Those rings are sweet . Looks like you guys have a great set up for beach hunting!

Enjoyed the photos. Nice hookah rig too. I wish I had taken some pictures of my hookah rig that I made from gear from Keene Engineering. As you know it's easier an cheaper than scuba. I like the long air intake hose on your rig.

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies! Gidday Neilo, not sure what you mean about the Aussie site, I got on it last night, and it's still running. Just more albums won't be created. So I guess you could have a few photos deleted, and replaced with others in the already existing albums. But if I'm missing something, let me know! Yep, Garry is really getting a kick out of his Excal. He's doing okay with it too. As for the hookah, he detects no deeper than around 5 to 6 feet, or less depth, so you shouldn't have any ear problems at that depth. He burst an ear drum many years ago, and doesn't have any trouble. I'm a bit concerned about the white pointer Neilo. Just be careful, have eyes in the back of your head, friend. If something happened to you, I'd miss your posts too much!! Around where we detect, there have been a lot of bronze whalers, and they tend to hang around the boats on the peninsula. Sometimes I'll snorkel up to 200mts off shore for old bottles, as the water isn't all that deep, around 6 to 10ft. But they're always in the back of my mind, and I carry a dive knife strapped to my leg, more so for psycological reasons, makes me feel better. But I'm usually with someone. Are you always on your own?
Take care Angela :)

Hiya Angela,

Awesome finds, loved that ring. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

very nice setup you have,

WARNING!!!! Ignorance is about to expose itself!!!!!!!!!!!
Uh, so, a white pointer ain't referring to any kind of dog HUH? So our next guess defaults to carcharadon carcharias, or great white shark??
Jim

Angela,

nice finds, thanks for posting the pics.

Not a dedicated water person; your gear is
very interesting; perhaps some day.

have a good un............

Thanks to all for your replies! Hi Jim, yep I was talking about a shark referred to under different names like: white pointer, great white shark, white death, same species of shark used in the "Jaws" movies. We get a lot of them around South Australian coasts, where some of the real biggies are caught. But they have been spotted almost everywhere else along the aussie coastline. But where I go detecting or diving, they get a lot of bronzies. Heard of who that had a go at a small aluminium dingy with small kids in it.
Angela :)
