My last post recorded a 1925 SLQ and an almost 2-ounce silver chain.

Since then I've been on two hunts and did hit silver on each, so let's see if this continues to the next one.

Thursday, August 16th, I went back to a park where I dug 2 silver Washingtons. I was digging mid-tones down to 12 (nickels on the Equinox 600) up to high-tones. Never got that silver dime I was hoping for but did dig a very crusty nickel that gave just a hint of shine at the rim that it mat be silver. After cleaning it turned out to be a 1943 P war nickel.

Also got a button IMG_6548.webp and what looks like a buckle IMG_6538.webp and a toasty IHC, dated 1886 IMG_6544.webp and...…

A miniature beach umbrella that is an enameled piece of brass IMG_6551.webpIMG_6552.webp

That was Thursday. On to Saturday and we hit the same elementary school as last week. Tough conditions with super-high humidity but with all the rain the ground is easy to dig and there was little evidence we had been there the week prior.

After a couple hours of searching I finally got silver and it turned out to be part of a vintage brooch dating from mid-20th century.
IMG_6553.webpIMG_6555.webp This is a sterling brooch that used a copper/brass pin which had dissolved away over the years. Note the irregular silver solder imperfection on the horse's right flank. That is where the remainder of the brooch was attached. The "B" hallmark is for Beaucraft out of Providence, RI and the original design was a galloping mare with her foal.
horse and foal pin.webp Beaucraft started just after WWII Beaucraft History.webp and they copyrighted various maker's marks some of which used "Beau", "Beaucraft", or a stylized B as a hallmark. Hallmark.webp

The piece I dug uses just the capital letter "B"; not sure of it's vintage.

Thanks for checking out the post and HH and GL on your next hunt.

Hey McD, cool looking brooch you got there! Being silver makes it even cooler..I also like your Frito Bandito button, makes you wonder what it stood for or was affiliated with. That's the really neat stuff we like to find, what is it, where did it come from, who had it, how did it get lost/dropped...all cool metal detecting stuff...Congrats on some interesting saves, Ddf.

Great hunt - Congratulations!:hello2:

Nice variety of finds including silver. Congrats

Thanks ddf! Absolutely! That umbrella has me scratching my heat. We are close to the ocean (couple hours away) and I figure it was someone who vacationed there that lost the umbrella. The IHC had to come from the farm that was part of the park property. The brooch was very likely a student at the school or parent; school opened in '58.

Thanks much! The Equinox has proved it can go deep with stock coin and record deep silver hits.

Thanks Hawks88! Yes, the variety you point out does change from hunt to hunt but never ceases to throw in the "oddity"....like the miniature umbrella.

Lots of good stuff there!

The buckle thing is a buckle cover for a horse harness.

Wow nice silver horse! I really like the button! Love the way he looks with his hat and that handlebar mustache. :icon_thumleft:

Very nice day.Congrats :icon_thumright:

Thanks squirrel322! That is the first I've ever dug. Appreciate the help on that id!

Thanks Whyme! Yes, I think the has a bit of a Spanish look, perhaps a "vaquero".

Thanks Rook! Hot day here. Been getting out despite the heat, humidity and biting flies. They seem to stay away with the "Deep Woods Off".

Nice work, congrats

Awesome finds there McCDig!!! Keep that coil a swingin!!! "D"

Thanks Brad! Guess you're having all this rain in NJ as well.

Thanks "D"! Happy hunting there in the sunny South.
