Beaumont, Tx / site has late 1800's to 1950 Padlock, button, small bottle

Button has N.S. Meyer New York on back. The loop came off the back of the button :(
I found the N.S. Meyer made many military buttons but the closest that I came was a Marine Corp (globe with anchor).
Maybe it is merchant marine.

Small bottle with "7" on bottom. Has the "oil like sheen" of old bottle
Padlock (all brass) with square shackle. No trademark.

Thanks for your time and happy hunting

I have a bottle just about like that, found near downtown Denver. I think it is cute. Wait, can a guy say cute in relation to a small bottle? I am so conflicted.

Mine has some attribution on it: Hoyt's German Cologne E. W. Hoyt & Co. Lowell Mass.

Must have been some cheap perfume to be in a undecorated bottle.

Thanks for the info... I found another bottle that is similar in appearance and it has "Hoyt's Nickel Perfume" on the front. I will try to post a photo later.

The button is a merchant marine cadet button. Another member helped me on that issue. Really, just the padlock is a mystery?!

Another Hoyt's? Man, he got around. I suppose the "nickel perfume" must have been really rank compared to "German Cologne".

I would like to see the research that was found IDing this as Merchant Marine cadet button. It doesnt seem to match any Merchant Marine http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28933&st=20 design or academy but I guess its possible because my research shows it to be a generic "career uniform" design. Does anybody have Alberts?

I also have the 1800's Hoyts bottle in my collection and a similar shape is listed as German Cologne, one panel, in my bottle manufacturers book.

The closest I can find to your bronze padlock in my book is made by Nabab. :dontknow: Its advertised as " The handsomest and best padlock ever offered for less than a dollar."

That is a lot of Hoyt's if it was sold in a 6 gross carton. Let's see, 6 x 144 = that stuff had better smell right sweet or there were a bunch of nasty smelling people running around.

Its a turn-of-the-century wholesale glass maufacturers catalog. This was back in the day when the United States had factories. :D

Im not surewhat you mean by "undecorated". Heres a good link..http://choyt48.home.comcast.net/~choyt48/ewhoyt_run.htm
Hoyts was some good stuff. (from what I hear)

HOYT'S MENS COLOGNE http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/21937-Hoyt-s-Cologne

This was one of the product's of choice of my old man & most of the WW II vet's that had come home from their hell spent youth. A drenching in Hoyt's erased the stank of cordite & the rank smell of young men's death. Hoyt's was love & reproduction. Hoyt's smelled of life.
Hoyt's was romance...

...As soon as I opened the Hoyt's & took a whiff, it
hit me: This is the real McCoy, This is an original product. This is a masterpiece. This is genius in a bottle. In short, this is the "Good Stuff".

Hoyts Cologne is so retro it's avant-garde. The scent is redolent of bergamot, neroli, oranges & lavender. The scent is delightfully decadent & "rotten" of squished exotic fruits & matted herbaceous vegetation in a weird wonderful distillation of a concoction.

Hoyt appears to have been the Coca Cola of the perfume world.

Thanks for all the good information.

The Meyers button was quoted as being at Alberts # is GO26B on page 289.
I do not have Alberts (I assume a button book?)

I posted a side by side of the two bottles. Both are chipped but I am proud of them. :icon_thumright:

Thanks again.
