Hello all - first post! I am excited to learn from the NA artifact experts. This was recently found on private property near Casper, Wyoming. It was a surface find (see in situ photo) . Is it a point, a knife, or something else? It is quite thin and beautifully made - What are your thoughts? Thank you to allATTACH=CONFIG]1746750[/ATTACH] CDC482BD-FD60-49A6-99D6-BFFA7409B2A1.webp8D37C7AE-0C54-4443-8829-F75E9E0F61DD.webpB5FBDE01-E953-44A9-99AE-C5471BFDE519.webpD05345C7-29A0-45D4-AF65-B66480758E6E.webp

If you want the artifact guys to jump on this be more descriptive with your title. There are some amazing experts here on this topic. Not me, but this looks very nice in my uneducated mind.

Welcome to tnet!

That is a really nice lanceolate point, and I am quite sure it is a ''James Allen'' Point (9,500 - 8,500 BP. They are a hard to find point (At least for me).

First, welcome to the forums. You may want to post this in the north american indian artifacts forum. It is about halfway down the main page. Oh yeah, that is a very nice artifact.

Material looks like Spanish Diggings quartzite. Not sure of the point type. Too far out of my area. Gary

Most all the partial artifacts and flakes I find along the Gunnison river in Colorado are made of that fine grain quartzite. That stuff makes for a super sharp edge when freshly broke. It also seems to have a stronger shear strength than others ideal materials. I'll bet it was a prized material to those stone age people as an excellent bone penetrating killer. It just wasn't as magical and pretty as other microcrystalline agates, that I believe they also prized for their beauty.
