Hi all, went out to the Whipstick State Forrest to a chiness camp. The forrest gets its name from the long sucker growth gum trees that if pushed out of the way will spring-back and give you a wack across the body. :-\ :-\ :-\ The Chinese camp is located at the fork of 2 creeks and there was about 2000 chinese camped here for about 6 years.Only stayed for the first gold rush then moved on to later rushes.Beelzebub Gully was first place that gold was found in the area known as Eaglehawk.Heavy thunder-clouds been building up for a few days and i knew the rain was not far away. The roads in the forrest are clay and went it rains they turn to a thick mud that even a 4 wheel-drive would have too trouble getting threw. So once the rain starts best too leave or your stuck for the nite.Got about a 2 hour hunt in and used a P1 unit as most of the relics are at depth.Ground clear of modern junk as takes a bit of walking to get to the spot.Single chinese cash coin saved the day as there was much too be had.I think the area was hit hard by mders back in the 1980's md rush when plenty of gold was found too. Not much left now.

Cool find there mate....Its too bad you didnt have longer to hunt...Hope you find your ginger jar!

Nice coin Tinpan but the adventure sounds even better, it is not always about the finds! Let us know if you can date the coin, could be much older than the area. HHx2, Mike

Right you are Mike Chiness cash coins are found in large numbers here some times and do date back to 1650.the first chinese came in 1852 so there a bit of a mystery to why these real old chinese where brought here by the chinese miners.Imperal chinese do leave coins and offerings in places to please the spirits of their ancestors. the chinese also beleived evil spirits hide in dark corners so there mines where always round.Chinese coins where never used as a exceptable currency yet other countries currency was at the time.
