Detector(s) used
Garret Ace250/Prospecter Bounty hunter(Backup)
I have been reading the posts here for awhile and am fairly new to this game of treasure hunting, though I DO prospect for gold each summer. I ended up with a little Bounty Hunter detector awhile back, which I WILL upgrade sometime soon...But I HAD to relay this story!

I was reading the other day and someone mentioned hunting their yard...So yesterday, the rains up here in the Puget sound area slowed and I got my hiney out in the yard and got to it. Quite a bit of clad(more than shown), a cute little diecast jeep, probably from the 50's, and two rings. One junker and the other MY FIRST GOLD RING :o. Right in my own back yard!!! Turns out that it is a Masonic ring called a Scottish Rite ring 14 level. It was dug near an original foundation from the 50's at a depth of about 9 inches.
I have been out quite a bit lately learning the ropes with this little detector hunting the coastal beaches and found clad, clad and more clad. As I said, I will end up upgrading, but this little detector brought me this first gold ring and will be near and dear to my heart for a long time to come.

This treasure, relic, coin hunting is ADDICTIVE!
Thanks for all the great posts!

A gold ring right off the bat? Man, don't fight the addiction, embrace it and go find more. ;D Congrats and welcome to the forum. Bill

I found a Scottish Rite ring 14 level that looks just like that one. Mine has some Latin
inscription cast into the inside. How about yours?

That is one nice ring. :) Private unhunted yards are the best. Usually not a lot of trash(people pick up trash in their own yard).

Part of the "beginners luck" thing is that when you first get a detector you dig everything. Then you go to parks and start digging tons of pull tabs, bottle caps, etc and get more picky.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum and hobby Nashoba. Great finds. Beginners luck? I would say that is a great way to start off. That find is certainly one that beginners and veteran hunters alike would be proud of.

Congratulations,

Nice looking ring,

Some people just have the touch in this hobby. I've had luck since day one also. And it never left me. That was over 10 yrs ago.

I'm sure this is just the start of a good TH life.

I have been hunting for years and still have not found a gold ring. Great going!!

That ring is the Scottish Rite Perfect Elu. Looks sort of like a wedding band. That is one sweet find, go find a bunch more while you're on a roll.

Welcome to the hobby,

Welcome to the Hunt ! My Wife's Hard bellied Girl friends thought that I turned into a Geek when I started out years ago, But after my wife showed off her Diamond ring with 6 rubies. Every one of them told their guys to go out and buy a detector!
My ride is a 52 Indian Chief and yes one might see me with the detector strapped to the back as I ride. GEEK! YA RITE!! Welcome aboard BUD!!
