I dug this up at belmar beach a while back at the water line as the tide was going out it was kinda deep. It was pretty beat up when I found it but I could read the august and the year. I thought it was 1989. I did not think much of it because it was not that old. Well a couple of days ago I found a old button that needed cleaning that I found in the woods. I soaked the button in lemon juice to clean it up. I did not want to toss out the lemon juice so I looked around my junk stuff to see if I could clean something else up. I saw that corroded disk so in it went. I left it in the lemon juice over night and cleaned it up with a brush. I was surprised to see what i thought was a eight in the year was a three. So it is from 1939. I wished I would have taken a before picture. I guess it's a beach pass from back then. NJ is good for making you buy a beach pass, I did not know they used them back then, assuming it is a beach pass.

That has been down there for quite a while. Looks like lemon juice does a nice job. I usually use white vinegar and aluminum foil as a sacrificial anode. Nice job in your clean up and hunt. Ralph

I have a number of beach passes around here and must dig them up someday. Some of the passes are attached to brass pins for attaching to your suit. I was told that the passes also got you a locker for your clothes.

That is an old time vendor's license they were purchased and had to be displayed on the cart or basket of the vendor selling his wares while strolling amongst the beachgoers.....We find a few like it in Atlantic City from that era and they look just like them....nice find!

With the number of the license, you might be able to find the vendor, if records go back that far.... ;D ;D ;D
