Hello Everyone,
I have had some bad experiences recently on Ebay.
The bad thing is that I have only sold 100 items.
These bad experiences are going to put me below seller standards for the upcoming inspection.
What should I do? Should I close my account?
If I am below seller standards then they will not let me sell anymore.

Call Ebay and discuss it with them. If you are a serious reseller, they will want you to stay. Just because you are below standard now doesn't mean it won't improve.

sell a bunch of items few dollar items.

Or get some friends to buy worthless items off you for .99 cents local pickup only. Mark as paid, tell them to leave feedback and you just bought a bunch of good feedback. I have this trick on my back pocket if I was on the verge of losing my top rated seller status. But kinda of a moot point now with to 90 day returns.

Unless they changed it, you still keep TRS status even if you do not do 90 day returns. You just don't get TRS Plus, which gives the discount.

I plan to keep TRS (knock on wood) and just miss my discount until the crappy idea ends in January (I think). Once that is done, any listing with 14days and 1 day handling should again be eligible for the discount providing you didn't get knocked down from these new defects while you wait it out.

if they changed it, my bad, but last I read that was the deal

Guys please do not automatically assume that everyone who sells on ebay is a perfect angel and can do no wrong.

I am mostly a BUYER on ebay and have dealt with many many horrible sellers.

They are out there and we owe it to everyone to make sure we aren't encouraging a bad seller to "beat the system". Just saying...

"Beat the system?" So when I wanted to become a top rated seller I put up a ton of auctions under $100. Got me above the minimum items needed for the year. eBay puts out the rules, but there are many ways to interpret them.

I didnt see anyone on here, including the OP, blaming eBay - in fact the OP said he had had some bad experiences and seemed to be owning up to the problem.

I have 5.0 rating across the board and top rated sellers status. Ebay is using this 90 day returns to take away my 20% discount. There is no other reason to do it other than to add 20% to their bottom line off the backs of their best sellers. Just like the "lets make this simple flat 9% sellers fees" was a fee hike disguised as trying to help us dumb people out who can't do math very well.

Ebay plays their games to game their system, I can play that game too if need be.

One thing that to this day that just really bugs me is they take FVF from shipping, but they limit how much you can charge for shipping on video games and other items. WHY? You are getting your FVF what do you care what we charge for shipping? Selling an old school big box computer game will always be more than $4.00 to ship. Some of those games are loaded with 5 pounds of manuals.

I did apply to sell on 11main, however so far no dice. I have looked around a bit and the old vintage stuff is there, but nowhere near the amount ebay has up for sale at any given time.

Ebay stock has rallied the last month and is back up to $54, it might be time right time to short it.

In a few days, I will loose my top rated seller status that I have held for two or three years now. This whole thing about buyers opening cases when all they had to do was request a return from me - and somehow the seller gets penalized. I even had it posted in my listings just message me with any issues or returns. That, and I got a negative a couple months ago from a buyer who I never could get to communicate with me ... And never understood what the comment (or, as eBay stated, his opinion) meant. I had read the warnings for many months on here, and was worried at the beginning of the year that this would be a problem. It turned for me, it became one.

The "90 day return policy" is only during the Christmas holiday season. It was the same last year and it didn't hurt me any. Other than that it's a 14 day return rule for top rated plus sellers. eBay Seller Information Center: 2014 Spring Seller Update: Holiday returns

  • With the new extended holiday return policy, you give buyers until January 31 to return any item purchased between November 1 and December 31.
  • You can choose to add a holiday return policy to all or just some of your existing listings and add it when you list. The January 31 return date will be displayed automatically to buyers only during the months of November and December.
  • The holiday returns option will be available to all sellers in September, in time to update your listings before the peak selling season.
  • The extended holiday return option will be required for any listing to qualify for Top Rated Plusbenefits from November 1 through December 31.
PS- I lost my top rated plus status for one 3 month period because I was busy at my regular job and didn't get 90% of my packages shipped within 1 business day. I got my top rated plus status back the very next evaluation period and still have it.
