Got this 1974 D Eisenhower dollar from a teller this week. It appears to be a well polished die or grease strike. Anyone know about these or have info on this? The L and I in liberty are completely missing and the Y nearly so. The B and T show substantial distress. Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

Here's the reverse. It has some evidence of grease mostly where the stars are to either side of he eagle.

Its cool for sure but unfortunately not enough of the coins major design elements are missing so i wouldn't expect it to bring a big premium.

Thanks for looking. I have a couple of halves with similar/more grease striking so they will match nicely with this Ike.

The odv-008 says bicentennial, this is 1974. Is it made from a bicentennial obverse die? These Ike varieties are new to me!

I wondered that myself and believe that is the case! Often Dies are designated for a production run for the next year but due to Die failures during the current (previous) year before the implementation of their use, they sometimes must be used early to finish out the target production numbers.

Looking at it closer now I think it is the 007 obverse.

Yeah, I believe you are correct! The original pics made it appear as the ODV-008 but it clearly appears to be the ODV-007. I wish I knew more about these Varieties but don't, so you will need to do some research to find out if there is any premium.

No premium is associated with these varieties they fall into that category where there is just not enough serious interest in them yet. You can also get varieties like a talon head or tiger claw for little or no premium as well. Its one of the main reasons i feel that Ikes have such a promising future.
