Thought for sure I had another penny under the coil. Turned out to be a rare variety of an 1858 Canadian 10 cent. I didn't rub it much so other than a couple of tarnish spot on it she came out nice.

Congrats! Any pre-confederation silver is awesome. Nice condition too.

Nice coin, had to look up the varieties and yours looks like the repunched 1858/1558, worth 1,400 in vg and 2 grand in fine. Darn impressive discovery! It's about time a Canadian coin makes banner.8-)

Just rea Plumbata's post. He's right you have the 1858/1558 error.
Wow! That one's got my vote, some rarity and value there. Congrats! If you sell, it pays a new detector by itself ;)

Welcome to the forum! You've set the bar pretty high for your next find and you got hooked pretty solid i'd guess. I know I would. :laughing7:
Very very cool find.

I agree that it is a 1858/1558 error. This may be the member's first post, which I would normally not consider for a banner vote.

However, the member joined over 2 1/2 years ago.

Therefore, I vote Banner as well.

You're right DeepseekerADS, forgot about that rule sorry. I was too excited to see it. Thanks for the reminder. Still one in a lifetime find.

Great coin. Congrats!

Gorgeous coin !!! Congrats and HH

Great for your collection. Good job!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks...I have had some crazy luck this year metal detecting.....In March I was hunting in England and found a solid gold key shaped brooch from the 1500s Tudor era....I am hoping I get that back after the Museum plays with it...Mike Key.webp

I'm voting banner too, that's a fantastic dime.

Holy crap, that key is just ridiculous. I was detecting in England this past early April, I made some good finds but no gold. I would have freaked out with that key. Hopefully you get it back, but my gut tells me someone will be interested enough to want that in a museum.

Good point "joined over 2 1/2 years ago" but has never once seen a post, or find that was even worthy of his few seconds of his time to reply to even just one of those ? This type of person is NOT worthy of a banner nomination, they will never bother to vote for you...why vote for them ?

These are what Jeff calls "non contributors", or "hit and run members".

I'm sorry I replied at all, except to point this out.

Beautiful silver coin find, congratulations! :occasion14:

Sorry, but gotta agree with Rick. In this case, it's just the breaks that it's not eligible. There needs to be some engagement on the forum prior to posting the sweet find. No mistake about it, this is an amazing coin and it should be appreciated. The rarity and value is worthy, but the circumstances preclude banner in my opinion.

Too bad the criteria of banner are not met, it is a great coin. Hopefully silverindahole will post more often, sounds like he finds good stuff.
