Best/Good film Editing Software?

Going to have to upgrade to some new software, but which one?

Adobe After Effects is the best it's a monthly or yearly subscription, but nothing else compares to the studio quality CGI and special effects they offer. Sony Vegas Studio is pretty decent, you can make HD videos and they have alot of transitions and effects.
