Went out for a short hunt this morning at one of our older sites where the hay has finally been cut. Found a few relics, a 1934 Wheat penny, and my third large cent. This is by far the nicest one. The details and patina are awesome in my opinion. It's a 1839 and I'm tickled to have it. Sorry RN, I'm not a "coin guy" either. Just, 1839?? That's pretty darn old! I've seen older, but that's in pretty good condition for being so old. I've noticed how some areas, the soil eats coins up like crazy. In other areas, coins seem to stay much more preserved.

I stand by my original post. WOW! :occasion14:

I agree Relic Nut fantastic detail for a 177 year old coin and no telling how long it's been buried "congrats" on all of your finds they are something to be proud of and thanks for sharing your pictures and story with us. I do wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishing.

I ended up buying a electroscope from amazon zooms right in and hooks up to pc with usb ---done

That's a nice one Joe. Wish mine would come up like that when I do happen walk over one. Gotta love seeing a big old copper turn up, expeacialy in that kind of shape. Nice hunt/finds!
