Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Ok, I realize that trying to narrow down all male vocalists into one "best" is nearly impossible. So, maybe it should be broken down into catagories of music. That said, I am really not a country music fan, especially thetwangy stuff, BUT there are and have been many great male vocalists in this genre.

This guy would be difficult to to top, IMO. Have a listen.........

:laughing9: THIS category may be impossible for me. It's my favorite type music, pretty sure I can't pick only one. Vince is up there without a doubt. But country music tells stories, so a good voice tells the stories with it''s personality. SOOO, I'm going with George Strait. He has just the right inflection, or humor or pain that the song calls for. There a reason he's so popular, and it's not just those Wrangler jeans!

yep, King George

You know, one song he did stuck in my head for days. I could just picture this town because I had just been there.

Here's a real southern, Louisiana country boy that never got the recognition he deserved. He also did a little song
called 'Polk Salat Annie' you might recall. Country music today has become 'hollywood glamorous , I'm cute - just hand me an award', of course IMHO.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Here is an even better one from Tony Joe. Pure talent.
Real music- no multple tracks - voice-overs or computers.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Now let's get to real country music. Nashville should make all their 'soft rock music stars' watch videos like
this to remind them of what real country music sounds like. They couldn't carry George Jones gee-tar case.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Man, I can't disagree with any of those choices. Good to see Tony Joe ain't forgotten. Gotta lean towards George Jones though.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

don't know their individual names, but I still love the O'Kanes. & my all time favorite, Marty Robins.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

My favorite Marty Robbins song

Here's one more from Tony Joe - how many know he wrote ' A Rainy Night in Georgia' , 'Steamy Windows' & others.
If he isn't in a 'Hall of Fame' somewhere - Something is seriously wrong with the Music Industry & their 'glam', throw me an award style of artists.

I think this song was voted as the top saddist song ever.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Quite possibly, I have no idea. But - it is real country music, unlike plenty of studio made today's country music.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

hank sr, jonny cash, w jennings, m haggard

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

I don't listen to much if any country anymore, but I was raised on it. I liked the traditional Cash, Jennings, Tom T, Buck O, etc...but I've always been a metal head even at 50.
I guess the closet thing to today's country for me would be Robert Plant/(Allyson Krauss)

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Today's country music sounds like classic rock with a twang. :tongue3:

I never thought of Dwight Yokum as a country singer, but I liked most of his songs.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Even though I think the current state of country music is trash...Trace Adkins would get my vote.

Re: Best Male Country vocalist? Let's hear it

Keith Whitley is one of my all time favorites. Alan Jackson is right up there aswell. :icon_thumright:

I like lots of them, but my favorite has to be Kenny Chesney. Some close runner ups would be George Strait, Keith Whitley (as Mainer already mentioned) and last but not least Chris Wall. Chris is a little known artist from west Texas. Here is one of his songs: Something To Shoot.
