Today I went back to the Ball field, where I found the Gold piece a few years ago.

One of my first finds, was a Slug, felt like aluminum, so I threw
it in my coin apron and moved on.
a little later I found a Clad Quarter, no Biggie.
My Hunting Buddy for the day decide it was time for a Smoke Break,
so we sat down in the field.
While talking about the Trash I found, I reached in and pulled
a handfull out and he looked in and Grabbed what I thought was the clad Quarter. Next thing he says WOW ! You Found this here ? ! ? !
I look at him puzzled. and say What ? it's just a Quarter.
He didn't have the Quarter, he had the "Slug" when he turned it over,
it was an Obvious 1892 Liberty Nickel, with the rim & the Reverse "Ground" ? off.
I guess the Moral of the story, Check those slugs ;D

It was in the same area I found a Seated Dime Love Token a couple years ago, so there is a possibility that it was dropped by the same person.

Any way,

Not a Big take today for 2 hours time,

However my keepers :

Pre-Computer SMILEY FACE pin.

1892 Liberty Nickel

Chewed up 19?9 wheat

and Silver Ring.

SMOKE BREAK?

As your southern comfort counselor of sorts, I must express my dissatisfaction...It is well known that Tobaccus Americanus has killed more people than all the wars ever waged in history PLUS all the alcohol, drug, and accident related deaths..

Cappy Z.

fumigating

fu?mi?gate ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fym-gt)
v. fu?mi?gat?ed, fu?mi?gat?ing, fu?mi?gates
v. tr.
To subject to smoke or fumes, usually in order to exterminate pests or disinfect.

v. intr.
To employ smoke or fumes in order to exterminate or disinfect.

in this world, there are many Tiny Organisims flying around Constantly
Imagine, Day in & Day out, as we Breathe all those Microscopic
Wattzitts In our Lungs.

What are these things Doing Inside our lungs ?
Chewing on the walls ? giving birth to even Tinier whatzitts ?

Just Keeping My Lungs Ffu?mi?gat?ed ;)

And Patching any holes already Chewed with Tar.

Rather than stamp out anything smoke related. Not just cigarettes (if you know whutta meen Vern) We should perhaps work to stamp out death.
Cause if I'm not mistaken, it has killed more people than anything combined.
But then again I'm not sure I would care to see someone (including myself) that's a thousand years old.

Sorry I couldn't resist. HH

That sounds like a mighty good day to me, Jeff!

You found a gold coin there you say?

Badger

Yea 1879 S $5.00

Site keeps Giving, But it takes Listening for the Whispers.

It's been Hammered for years.

I usually hit it Twice a year.

That's great Jeff. I'll bet you were shocked to see that come out.

Do you think the gold piece was lost as some sort of jewelry or does the property have some interesting past history?

And too, did you happen to check the approx. depth of the coin?

From looking at an 1876 plat map of the town, and county map,
from the 1876 Atlas, it appears to have been an open area
accross an ally behind a School.

We Believe early Carnivals, Medicine Shows, Etc. may have
taken place here, because of the finds.

the area was populated since at least the 1730's.
And traveled Through since

On Depth, I never really pay attention.
I can Estimate 6 to 8" which may be exaggerating a little.
SORRY.

Not to worry Jeff. Porkchops, eggs, bacon and whole milk killed the rest of the dead people on this planet. You're taking the safe route by building up your immunities. :D
Let's put a big tax on all the people-killing foods these non-smokers eat. Kinda like the guy in the bar drowning his liver in alcohol complaining about smoke. He should go to the health spa.

Hi Jeff
On days that I can't get out, I look through my "junk" bags and always find something I end up keeping. Nice finds.
Have a Happy Easter
