BEST TREBLE GILT STANDARD COLOUR

I'm new here and this looks like a great resource.

I'm restoring a historical schoolhouse c. 1825 and a friend found this and did some research. It seems that best refers to the layers of plating. Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Yes, "GILT" is the plating, unless I'm wrong it is always gold plated when it says GILT. It's not unusual to recover buttons where the gilt has worn off although on occasion there is still some remianing.
