This is located in an area of the Cook County Forest Preserve in Illinois known as "Cap Sauer's Holding". Shermanville Illinois thinks this is the ruins of a Bible Camp, which just may be. The CCC records lists a camp site in Palos Park, which is the township in which the ruins are located. I went out when the ground wasn't frozen, but had the big coil on the DFX, bad move, just too much trash in the ground. There is one photo of a swimming pool, and I find it hard to believe that CCC camps were equipped with pools, so it just may be a Bible Camp. Place is over-run with deer, big uns, too. Either way, it is a cool site, and yes, that is a photo of a 2 holer!

Glory hallelujah! Someone wants me to go searchin down the glory hole? I'm thinkin that if the Mrs. ever found out I did that, I'd be sleeping out there! The oldest that the site possibly could be is from 1933 if it was a CCC camp, and I'm not diggin in an outhouse pit for that. 1800's - another story.

Congrats on the find there pal!

I'd like to do that spot with my 6 inch coil. I've been learning that when it comes to these rough sites less is often more.

I'd do that site very carefully and too make sure you find out what it really was used for. There are old camp sites like this all over where they kept WWII prisoners of war. I just learned of one myself in another state and hope to check it out next spring. My friend found a German medal there.

Best to you and keep us updated.

The cold should be no problem. Try this in a 16 oz. glass: 2 parts vodka, 1 part peppermint schnapps. 2 parts HOT cocoa. The instant kind of cocoa with little marshmellows in it. Take as needed. Don't let the glory holes scare ya, they are just nice soft rich loamy earth by now. Plus, they are probally not frozen and easy, sweet diggin' In case you find yourself still hesitant about the task, try: 2 parts Vodka, 1 parts schnapps, 2 parts instant HOT cocoa (the kind with the little marshmellows), then proceed. Re dose as needed to complete the work.

Diggin' in crap is worth it if you bring home the gold. If not, take your wife flowers and candy!
