Thats about all I can tell you about it's location, or my partners might hurt me.

We started off this morning hunting a mid 1800's house. Things were slow so

we took to the fields. The first signal Weaver dug was an Indian head. Then

Armstrong dug a large cent and then another, every now and then they get

on my nerves. Well the next thing I know Armstrong is hollering he's got

something really really good and I am thinking to myself, you got to be #@!$%@ &^%$* me.

He's dug a 8 Reales, OH boy yipp ee :BangHead:

It has a ring to it when you flip it and it has the weight, but it reads 67 on our xlt's vdi.

I think it is one of the poured counterfeits, it has to have a high content of silver to ring.

It is still a fantastic find. Then to top it all off Weaver finds a cut large cent.

I got my butt kicked today and I enjoyed every second of it.

Weaver also found the Bust dime and the large cent last Saturday in a field that has

been pounded by a few of us on here.

I did find a dandy button and some other button parts.

If we could get them to plow that site it would be great. Alot of stuff came off that site, you know there is more.
Has Jim been there with the Nautilus?

Man, Deno that camera takes killer pictures, even makes a bad coin look good, as happy gilmore would say. ahhhhhh i hate that bob barker (armstrong).........just messing jim, those were some alsome finds.....have you got a year off those large cents yet?

Those coins look good no matter who's taking the picture. Armstrong is more than likely to sore to clean em up.
You know he's old and he's been eating well.

Buds haven fun...cant go wrong with that :icon_thumright:

Yes he has, but he couldn't get near the coins for all the iron. That thing hunts in a mixed mode.
I don't see how he finds anything in a trashy area but he does. Our site just had to much iron
for him where the coins were. We can go back to that site anytime. If they plow it in the spring
we will all get out there.

trying to straighten this beautiful American silver coin?

I think he should heat it up and put it between 2- 2x4s and slam it with a hammer.
I have done it before without heating it up and it turned out fine. Mine didn't have
that bad of a bend in it though. I see you have been making some great finds.

Gary, you are right. When we first started, we were always wanting to hunt old house sites
where the house was still standing.

Once you get a taste of field hunting, nothing else compares.

Kev, you are so right. This is the best hobby in the world.

Thanks to all of you for looking, and your comments.

Good luck to all of you.

Man, I hate to say it, but I know the feeling of standing there and watching a buddy dig a Big 8. ::) Just ask HB who has done it Several times. Or more recently, ask Shanegalang. >:( :D

Great finds there. I would love to dig a LC down here. LC for me is overdue. I haven't dug one since late 2009, believe it or not. But since then I have dug spanish silvers, early seateds, a really nice barber, and some killer relics. Go figure. I think that the LC's just didn't circulate down here in Louisiana as much, since they were all minted in Philly.

In terms of competition, you should be glad that I don't live in KY anymore. But you still have HB to worry about, and he is like a hound dog with a nose for old coins. :laughing7:

What was the two-piece button you guys dug? Military?

Hey BB, I am in a real slump, but it's still a blast to be out where the old coins are, As far as competition goes, most
people act like it's not a competition, but we all know better.

There is nothing like spanking your buddies butt in the field with a nice find or more. I am the spank-ee in our group,
it is rare for me to beat these two, they are tuffff.

If HB ever gets a medium and a small coil then I will really be worried. He seems to find more than his share with
what he's got.

We talked about it before, some coins just seem to elude you, mine was the Barber dime and I am way over due
for some big old silver.

Armstrong said he thought the button backs were Military, I have not cleaned mine off yet to check the backmark.
He found one just like the one I found, he may already know.

Good luck and good hunting,

Deno

Deno,

Our two button backs were different, both military and most likely from the CW. Yours looked like it is a general staff Union standard issue button. I looked at your button in the field but I did not see a BM, although it may have one. The one I found I cleaned when I got home and it is the back from a large CW coat button. Backmark is variation of a Scoville Waterbury backmark. Most likely both are both backs from Union buttons, altough some Confederates were wearing these type of uniform buttons during the early years (61-62) of the CW when the CSA was operating in Kentucky.
