Well it turned out to be a great decision to hunt this old farm house. Me and Don had discussed whether to hunt this site or to hunt an inner city site today. Figured it would be better to hunt the farm since it was quite a bit cooler today (65 degrees) and not too many shade trees. It turned out to be a great decision.

Talked to the owner and he said that one of his neighbors hunted the place a few years ago. So needless to say the challenge was set. Started out by finding some seriously corroded clad Lincolns. Not a good sign. Got closer to the front steps and got a couple early wheats, 1914 (no D mint mark >:( ) and a 1916. Things were looking up. Grabbed a couple more wheats from the 50's and a few more clad coins. Then we were both in the section of yard heading for each other when Don said he got another good quarter signal. He further checked the VDI and it read 91, 92 on the DFX. So of course I stopped and wanted to check out the dig in action. He flipped the plug and their it was a nice shiny disc. I thought please don't let that be a Cracker Jack Token......Finally a decent 1912 Barber Half. Happy dance all the way to the car to get the camera.

Right next to that about six inches away was a nice 1928 Mercury Dime ;D. A few more wheats in the same area and an unusual find of a 1954 coin from South Afrika. A crotal bell and some other trinkets finished out the day. But I will never forget the Barber Half find...What a day...

Be safe out there and Goodluck on your next hunt! JGAS

Nice half and nice assortment of finds. Congrats.

Because it is an "already hunted" area :laughing9:there just has to be more coins in the ground.
Keep on hunting, and keep on finding.
(I can remember my first Barber half......was staying in a beat-up motel in Central Florida. Went out the back door to see
what was there, and there was a small backyard, with a not-too-large tree. Under the tree, out pops a nice Barber half dollar.
You won't forget the when and where of yours, either.)
