Bird Points Anyone.....Some nice little finds........

Here are some birdies for you to consider. Many are Bassets a few other odds n ends. All nice points. Would not have liked being shot with one of these little jagged suckers.

Those are some nice examples of true arrowpoints.Some of those look almost like a Friley/Catahoula hybrid.Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. These are all Louisiana points. I use the common vernacular for arrowheads and call them "bird points." True arrowheads these are...shot, not thrown. Yes in Louisiana more than most places the indians seemed to delight in mixing point characteristics so you get many mixed breeds. We have a Friley variant here that though rare is one of the most exquisite points I have ever seen.....it is a cross between a Friley and an Agee. Also you see Basset, Alba and Bonham crosses and Catahoula, Homan, Cuney, and several others that take on cross characteristics. Big points are impressive, but the skill that goes into making some of the smaller points was truly amazing.

I have to agree the skill level was very high to make the arrow points in later times. Interesting that you see and recognise the cross breeds. I wonder if it was a type of point evolution or transition. I mean,, I am sure it was but most points just hop to the next specie. Interesting you brought this to our attention.
